ENDS 5/20 – The Friends of the Morton Mandan Public Library are hosting a book sale to welcome spring. It’ll happen Saturday, May 21st from 10am to 3pm in the new Bookmobile Garage attached to the library building. All proceeds will be directly used to support the library. ENDS 5/22 – The Bismarck Mandan Safety Councils 13th Annual Bike Rodeo will happen Monday, may 23rd from 4 till 7 pm at the Bismarck Public Schools Transportation Building at 705 South 9th Street. Activities include Bike Safety Education, Helmet Fitting, Bike Inspecting, Obstacle Courses, Free Bike Drawing, Free Bike Helmet Giveaway while they last. Participants must provide their own bicycle, wear a bike helmet and be accompanied by an adult.
ENDS 5/22 – The Missouri Valley Family YMCA is presenting the National Senior Health and Fitness Day Trade Show Monday, May 23rd from 9am to noon. It’ll feature area vendors, for prizes, educational sessions, wellness screenings, fitness demonstrations and much more. ENDS 5/23 – Individuals interested in taking the Game Warden exam to select candidates for the position of a full-time temporary district game warden must register no later than May 24. The test is at 10 a.m., May 27, at the North Dakota Game and Fish Department’s main office in Bismarck. Applicants must register by submitting an online application through the North Dakota State Job Openings website.
ENDS 5/31 – The North Dakota Game and Fish Department is prohibiting open burning this spring on public property it manages south of Bismarck and Mandan, as a means to reduce the potential for wildfires in a heavily wooded recreation area along the Missouri River. All open burning, including campfires, is banned until further notice on the Oahe Wildlife Management Area along both sides of the Missouri River. While the use of portable grills is allowed, extreme caution is advised due to the heavily vegetated area
ENDS 6/13 – The North Dakota State Fair Foundation announces the availability of six – $1,000 scholarships to North Dakota graduating high school seniors. To be eligible for the scholarship a student must: be a citizen of North Dakota, have plans to enroll in an accredited post-secondary education institution or trade school, have exhibited and/or competed in 4-H and/or FFA at the North Dakota State Fair for a minimum of 3 years, and have been a member of 4-H and/or FFA for a minimum of 4 years. Apply by June 13th.
ENDS 6/14 – The Bismarck Police Department has implemented a proficiency test prior to being eligible to hunt. The stesting will take place at the NISHU archery range, 1409 Riverwood Dr. in Bismarck. The test will take place Wednesday May 25th, Tuesday June 14th, and Wednesday June 15th, all classes from 6pm to 7:30pm. After completing the proficiency test, a certification card will be mailed to the applicant. The certification card along with a valid photo ID, the ND Game & Fish General Hunting License and Archery tag will need to be presented a time of application which will be announce at a later date. The applications process will be a first come/first serve basis.
ENDS 6/20 – A Camp that equips kids to change the world through kindness will be held June 21-23. Camp Kindness equips kids to change the world around them through music, activities, crafts, and inspiring messages along with a daily “kindness mission” to practice leadership at home. Camp Kindness is being put on by Surprise Church and will be held June 21-23 from 1-4pm at Northridge Elementary. Cost for the camp is $10 per child with a $30 maximum cost per family. ENDS 8/15 – No matter the experience level, the North Dakota Department of Transportation, and ABATE of North Dakota recommend all motorcycle riders take a rider safety course. Basic and experienced rider courses are offered across the state throughout the summer. Learn more at ND M S P dot com.
ENDS 9/17 – THE CITY OF BISMARCK will be launching its 150th Anniversary History & Mystery Scavenger Hunts starting on May 14th at the State Capital. The hunt is powered by Yondar, an interactive map that allows visitors to explore out community using augmented reality wayfinding. Other hunts will be at Camp Hancock Summer Opening on May 28th, the Heritage River Landing Grand Opening July 16th, at the Former Governor’s Mansion Ice Cream Social on August 14th, The UTTC International Powwow September 9th thru the 11th. ENDS 12/12 – CHI ST ALEXIUS is offering a support group designed to help stroke patients, survivors, family, and caretakers, manage the different challenges a stroke presents.
