SID HARDT says his fascination with radio began at age 11 while during a 6th grade tour of KHDN in Hardin, MT he got to say his name on the radio…what a thrill! At age 13 he actually worked for (and got paid from) the radio station KHDN – they hired him to pull weeds in the alley behind the station!
Sid is the “dean” of radio in Bismarck-Mandan. He began his 39th year of broadcasting in Bismarck-Mandan with the start of sister station MOJO 1075. He’s now celebrating 40 YEARS IN BISMARCK-MANDAN RADIO!
A Montana native, Sid began his radio career in Hardin, Montana in 1966 doing character voices for the morning show on KHDN. After graduating from Brown Institute in Minneapolis in May of 1970, Sid worked at KHDN and then at KDRG in Deer Lodge, Montana. In ’71 he went to work at KOOK-AM in Billings, Montana, then in May of ’73 Sid moved to Bismarck to work at KFYR Radio – most of his time on-air there spent in afternoon drive.
In 1993, Bob Denver asked Sid to be the morning man and Program Director for a new country station called KAT Country 97.5. When Sid left KKCT, it was a ratings and revenue leader in Bismarck-Mandan. In 2000, Bob Denver asked Sid to again be his morning man and Program Director, this time for the “re-birth” of KQ 94.5. Sid obliged, and brought most of the KKCT listeners with him. KKCT eventually changed formats, and Sid was in the driver’s seat of another ratings and revenue leader! During all that time, Sid realized he had lost his “mojo,” and in 2011, Bob Denver asked Sid a third time to be the morning man and Program Director for a new station….the new radio station called MOJO 1075! When Sid had the opportunity to once again work for Bob Denver’s LOCAL ownership he jumped at the chance. Who knew radio could be this much fun again!
May of 2013 Bob asked him to slide on over to sister station The BIG RIG 105.9FM and remain Program Director for both Radio Bismarck Mandan stations. Sid shares The BIG SHOW weekday mornings from 6am-10am with his friend Amy Jo Johnson.
Sid and his wife, Donna, live in Bismarck with their cat “Socks.” Between them they have 4 kids, 3 grandkids, and a Harley which takes them on wonderful vacations every year.
Sid is thrilled to once again be back doing country radio mornings in Bismarck-Mandan!
