About the Bismarck Larks

The Bismarck Larks joined the Northwoods League (NWL) in 2017. The NWL is the largest organized baseball league in the world with 26 teams, drawing more fans than any league of its kind. The NWL provides top college players from North America and beyond a summer collegiate baseball experience. More than 340 Northwoods League players have advanced to Major League Baseball in the NWL’s 31-year history.

The Position

The People and Culture Manager fosters a positive, inclusive, and dynamic workplace culture across the Bismarck Larks, Minot Hot Tots, and Funatix Events organizations. This position requires a strategic leader passionate about people and employee engagement and dedicated to developing and implementing HR strategies that align with the team’s mission and values. The People and Culture Manager will oversee all aspects of human resources, including recruitment, talent development, performance management, and employee relations. This position will work with various individuals across the organization, including but not limited to full-time employees, season employees, interns, host families, players, and coaches.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Employee Experience and Communication
  • Oversee the employee life cycle, including recruitment, interviews, onboarding, training, performance reviews, goal-setting, and off-boarding
  • Lead and conduct organization-wide trainings
  • Facilitate team building activities, employee milestones, recognitions, etc. to promote and maintain a positive, high-performing culture across the team
  • Foster open communication across full-time staff, seasonal staff, interns, host families, coaches and players
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employees and host families; team updates, addressing concerns, conflicts, and feedback in a timely and professional manner
  • Deploy yearly employee, host family and players surveys to gauge satisfaction and determine solutions / recommendations based on findings
  • Act as a cultural ambassador, ensuring that the team’s values are consistently reflected in all interactions and processes
• Talent Recruitment
  • Develop strong job descriptions, and create effective recruitment and interview practices
  • Post jobs and track applicants/candidates
  • Manage the interview process to ensure a positive experience for candidates and the hiring team through clear and timely communication
  • Develop and maintain relationships with professional organizations, colleges and universities, and community organizations to identify and recruit a diverse pool of candidates for all positions
  • Collaborate with marketing team to build marketing campaign to attract local and best-fit candidates
• HR Administration
  • Manage compensation, benefits, and HR policies, ensuring alignment with local labor laws and best practices
  • Assist with disbursement, collection and organization of employment paperwork 
  • Provide regular reports and updates to leadership on metrics such as turnover rates, employee satisfaction, etc.
  • Review and update handbooks for all groups associated with the team including full-time employees, seasonal employees, interns, players and host families
  • Assists with employee investigations, disciplinary action, and terminations
• Team Representation
  • Represent the team at various networking events and participate in other outside, community events, as defined by the team

General Team Responsibilities

• • Game and Team Event Availability: Expected to be available for all Bismarck Larks home games and team events; this includes weekends and holidays.
  • Funatix Event Availability: Expected to be available for all Funatix Events, including but not limited to the Mandan Rodeo Days, company picnics, festivals, etc. A full event list will be provided. This includes weekends and holidays.
  • Game Day and Event Hours: Expected to be available from mid to late morning through the end of the game and/or event. Schedule will be decided by the direct supervisor on a homestand and event basis.
  • Non-Game Day/Event Hours: Expected to attend office hours of 8 AM-5 PM each weekday. 

 

• Other General Team Responsibilities May Include: 

 

• • Assist with ballpark set-up and tear-down before-the-season, after-the-season and during each homestand
  • Assist with event set-up and tear-down at team events
  • Help maintain ballpark cleanliness
  • All other duties as assigned

Experience, Education, and Licensure:

• Bachelor’s Degree with at least 2-3 years related experience in Human Resources required
• A-PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification strongly desired

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Understanding of federal, state, and local employment-related laws and regulations
• Understanding of and experience with most or all the core aspects of Human Resource Management, including recruiting/staffing, employee relations, performance management, leadership development/training, and worker’s compensation
• Courage to make tough decisions and deliver complex messages with professionalism and poise
• Have a high level of interpersonal skills and ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations
• Strong attention to detail in composing, typing, and proofing materials, data entry, establishing priorities, and meeting deadlines
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with management staff and employees
• Outstanding leadership skills with a high capacity for managing multiple projects simultaneously, influencing and gaining credibility with all levels of employees
• Organized with the ability to learn new programs and procedures quickly
