As a part-time landfill spotter and waste collector, you will be accountable for collecting and disposing of solid and yard waste, and regulating the traffic and vehicle flow at the landfill. You will be responsible for ensuring that waste is disposed of in the correct areas, visually inspecting incoming loads, and carrying out other assigned duties.
Examples of Duties
1. Carries refuse containers to and from truck; picks up and empties refuse materials into truck; replaces lids in cans; picks up and disposes of spilled refuse from ground. Assists in the collection of yard waste. Collects paper and other debris from public right-ofways and disposal ground area.
2. Operates mechanism for loading, compressing, and dumping refuse material.
3. Directs driver in movement of refuse truck in alleys and street pickup locations.
4. Cleans and washes refuse truck.
5. Performs other duties of a comparable level/type as required.
6. Able to walk on average of 3 miles a day while on route.
7. Able to carry garbage cans in excess of 40 pounds over 2-3 feet of snow in the winter or carry bags in the summer in excess of 50 pounds. (Grass bags)
8. Able to walk in alleys that are extremely icy in the winter on average of 3 miles per day.
9. Able to get on and off the truck multiple times a day, also may have to hang on the back step of truck for a block at a time.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED and experience in heavy manual labor; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Valid North Dakota driver’s license.
